Completed in 1983 as part of a redesigned Museum of Modern Art, the Museum Tower includes six floors of museum space and 240 apartments. The owners, who have worked with Stedila Design in the past on other projects, originally purchased a single unit in the building. When an adjacent apartment and later, another one above became available, they decided to convert the space into an airy 5,000 sq ft duplex. Joining three apartments required a major reconfiguration of the layout including the addition of a sweeping staircase and a master suite on the upper floor. The design team saved and updated original paneling and incorporated the owners’ substantial collection of art, Biedermeier and Art Deco furniture, and decorative objects.
