Louis Boston was the high-end clothing and lifestyle store that brought high fashion to Boston and helped establish the city’s luxury retail scene. Louis was among the first in the country to carry pieces from European designers, and it was considered an inspiration by many fashion and retail icons even today. Tim Button was the designer for several iterations of Louis Boston, working closely with the owners for over 25 years. Famous for its impeccably curated selections of clothing, accessories, and home décor items, Louis Boston moved in 2010 from its longtime location on Newbury Street to the South Boston waterfront, a formerly industrial and maritime commercial area. In a complete departure from the original store, Louis Fan Pier went minimalist, with an industrial aesthetic featuring bare concrete floors, corrugated metal exposed ceilings, and large windows, complete with custom-designed furniture and light fixtures. The store closed its doors in 2015, after more than 85 years in business.
