Project Description

Hawthorne by the Sea

Hawthorne by the Sea

An iconic waterfront seafood restaurant since 1946, Hawthorne by the Sea was given a subtle makeover to create a contemporary destination while preserving its 1950s aesthetic. The redesign retained the elements that were the essence of the past interior—such as a bridge going over a pool filled with lobsters—combining these with new design, most notably the horseshoe-shaped bar with a figurehead turned into a light fixture, which acts as its centerpiece. The lighting was softened, and the wall mirrors were tilted down to create intimacy. Original captain’s chairs were reused, and a dozen ship models, found in a warehouse, were displayed throughout adding to the sense of authenticity.
