Greenwich Waterfront Townhouse

Greenwich Waterfront Townhouse

A 3-story townhouse in Greenwich, overlooking Long Island Sound, was designed for a couple that looked to downsize from a much larger house. The very vertical house needed to accommodate the owners’ expansive art collection and the scale of the furniture from the previous home while taking advantage of the water. Art played the central role in the design of the new house, with the structure itself and the arrangement of the rooms designed around the collection, mindful of wall space and sight-lines. A spacious roof deck, complete with fireplace, full kitchen, and two seating areas, was installed for entertaining, alfresco dining, and taking in the views. Inside the Greenwich Waterfront Townhouse, the orientation of the rooms and the position of the windows were shifted to maximize the vistas. Most of the furnishings and artwork came from the former residence and were reused and reconfigured for the new spaces. The art in the collection ranges from pre-Columbian artifacts to contemporary photorealistic paintings, often juxtaposed for an unexpected effect.
